Find the right Orange County jail before the notary travels
A person arrested by a city police department may still be at that city's jail, may have been released, or may have moved to an Orange County Sheriff facility. This guide lists the city jails and holding facilities, the published numbers for checking custody, and how to follow a transfer.
What do you need help with?
Choose only what you know. You will review and edit the message before your text app opens. Do not include names, booking or A-numbers, birth dates, ID images, document contents, or medical or case details.
Need a notary for someone in an Orange County city jail? Call or text (909) 751-8439. Tell us the arresting agency and the document type, and we can discuss the steps and give you a quote. You do not need to finish the custody check before you call; most people call us first and we work through it together. Visits depend on facility approval and signer availability.
On Call Notary is an independent mobile notary service. We cannot access private custody systems or guarantee a location or admission, but we can tell you exactly whom to call and what to ask.
City jails with their own resources
The August 4, 2026 BSCC list identifies these seven municipal jail records as I or IJ.[1] Public visiting rules and signing questions differ:
- Anaheim Detention Facility
- Buena Park City Jail: Jail/Booking 714-562-3939; check city custody before following BPPD’s county-custody direction.[6][7]
- Costa Mesa City Jail
- Fullerton City Jail
- Huntington Beach City Jail
- La Habra City Jail: the dated inspection’s barrier-visiting and short-stay mail details make document handling important.[9]
- Newport Beach City Jail: jail 949-644-3672, not the separate front desk; public visit windows differ for sentenced and unsentenced people.[11][12]
A jail classification or public visit slot does not establish notary admission. Confirm current custody, the correct visitor category and document handling before travel.
Temporary-holding facilities
The August 4, 2026 list identifies temporary-holding records for Brea, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Irvine, Laguna Beach City Hall, Orange Police, Tustin Police, Seal Beach, Westminster and Santa Ana Police.[1] The BSCC definition describes temporary holding as 24 hours or less; it is not a prediction of any individual’s release or transfer time.[8]
Santa Ana city holding has a separate custody-and-transfer resource. Its April 2026 inspection and the August list classify it as TH—not Type II—and it is not the Sheriff’s Central Jail Complex.[1][14]
For any of these locations, ask the arresting agency whether the person remains there, was released or was transferred. If transferred, obtain the receiving agency and exact facility before planning a signing. Do not assume outside-notary access at holding facilities.
Keep similar names separate: Irvine holding is not Musick; Orange Police holding is not Theo Lacy; Santa Ana Police holding is not the county complex.[1]
A separate July 16, 2026 corrected pre-opening report covers Garden Grove Police Department Temporary Holding. It does not establish an opening date or current operation; do not treat it as an available signing location.[18]
Court holding and juvenile facilities
Lamoreaux Juvenile Justice Center, Harbor Justice Center and North Justice Center are the adult list’s CH court-holding records.[1] Court holding concerns court appearances, not routine notary appointments.[8] Confirm the person’s actual detention facility instead of planning document signing at a courthouse holding area.
The state’s separate juvenile table includes Orange County Juvenile Hall, Orange Secure Youth Treatment Facility, Orange Co. Youth Guidance Ctr., Orange Secure Youth Treatment Facility at YGC, Youth Leadership Academy and Orange Secure Youth Treatment Facility at YLA.[1] They are outside this adult custody guide’s signing coverage. Their appearance on a state list does not establish outside-notary access.
Following a transfer to county custody
Use the OC Sheriff’s custody information, which requires an account or sign-in, then confirm the exact facility directly.[5] “Orange County Jail” is not a building assignment.
Choose Central Men’s, IRC, Theo Lacy or Musick only when that location is confirmed. If an old result names Central Women’s, read the dated vacancy evidence first; current occupancy and the signer’s location are not established by that record.[4] The Central Jail Complex chooser and Orange County guide help distinguish the facilities.
After a transfer, recheck the approval channel, identification and witness arrangements, document delivery and return, and the travel quote. Do not reuse the former jail’s visiting approval.
What to have handy when you call
- The arresting agency and the confirmed current facility, if you have it.
- The facility phone or official locator result.
- The document type, whether it is complete, and any notarial instructions from the recipient.
- Any deadline.
- The signer's identification plan.
- Whether the document needs witnesses.
Please keep the person's name, date of birth, booking number, A-number, ID images, and the document itself out of ordinary text messages. Call and we will agree on a secure way to share anything needed.
The notary visit covers the notarization. Choosing or preparing the document, and legal advice, are separate services; ask us and we will point you toward trusted local legal help.
City Jails and Transfers notary questions
Why doesn't every city have its own page?
The seven municipal I/IJ jail records have separate resources. Temporary-holding and court-holding locations are named here because the immediate task is confirming custody and any transfer—not assuming a notary appointment is available. Santa Ana’s existing page is a holding-and-transfer resource. Juvenile facilities and Garden Grove’s dated pre-opening report are identified separately without implying signing access.[1][18]
Does a Type I listing mean a notary can visit?
No. The classification describes the facility category.17 Whether and how a notary may visit is confirmed with each facility.
Where do I look after a county transfer?
Use the OC Sheriff Inmate Information System, then identify the exact Sheriff facility.7 We can walk you through it.
Can you guarantee the signer will still be at the city jail?
No. Custody can change quickly at a city jail, so we recheck the location close to the visit and plan for what happens if the person moves.
How much does a city jail notary visit cost?
Notarization is $15 per signature, the California maximum, plus a travel fee quoted up front. Jail visits are quoted as a package. Call (909) 751-8439 for an exact quote.
