Call the jail line, not just the front desk
Newport Beach Police lists Jail/Bail: 949-644-3672 separately from Front Desk: 949-644-3681, at 870 Santa Barbara Drive.[12] Its bail page confirms city police custody and 24-hour in-person bail processing.[13] Bail-processing hours are not notary visiting hours. Ask the jail whether the signer is still there and who handles requests for a document signing.
The state list identifies Newport Beach City Jail as BSCC 3720, IJ.[1] That classification does not establish notary admission, and the police address is not approval to arrive.
Public visiting depends on custody status
The May 11, 2026 inspection letter, covering the April 13 inspection, includes different public visiting windows in the policy excerpt:
- Unsentenced: 2–4 p.m.
- Sentenced: 8 a.m.–6 p.m.[11]
The inspection summary gives a broader daily window and records in-person barrier visiting with one-hour visits.[11] Do not assume the broader hours apply to everyone. Ask staff which current rules apply to the signer—and separately whether a notary signing is permitted. None of these public hours is a confirmed notary appointment window.
Confirm the signing can work through the approved setup
Before setting a time, resolve how identification, signature pages, the notary’s journal and any required witnesses will be handled. An acknowledgment may concern a document already signed, but the signer must personally appear, establish identity and acknowledge execution. A jurat requires signing in the notary’s presence and an oath or affirmation.[19] A barrier visiting slot alone does not answer whether those steps can be completed.

If the person leaves city custody
Confirm whether the person was released or transferred. If transferred, obtain the receiving facility before planning a visit; do not assume Musick or any other county jail. Use the city-jail transfer guide and Orange County facility guide once the location is known.
