Start with the custody check
California's January 2026 list identifies Fullerton City Jail as a municipal Type IJ facility at 237 W. Commonwealth Avenue.1 The state's Type I definition generally covers detention for no more than 96 hours after booking, excluding holidays.17

If the signer was transferred
We ask which facility received the person. "Orange County Jail" could mean the Central Jail Complex, Theo Lacy, Musick, or another custody location, and we do not send a notary to Santa Ana or Orange on an assumption.
After a transfer, we recheck the exact facility and housing location, the correct approval channel, the visitor category, what documents may enter, the signer's identification access, witness rules, and the return method and timing. A transfer can also change travel cost and availability, so we quote the actual route once the location is confirmed.
Getting the signing ready
Have the complete document ready and tell us whether it is already signed. An acknowledgment requires personal appearance and acknowledgment of the signature; it may have been signed earlier. A jurat requires personal appearance, signing before the notary, and an oath or affirmation. Ask the recipient or an attorney which act is required; the notary cannot choose or draft your legal document.
