What the dated records say

Two official records answer different questions:

  • January 14, 2026 inspection letter: BSCC describes Central Women’s Jail as “vacant as of September.” The associated 2025 inspection worksheet also records that it was vacant on inspection day.[4]
  • August 4, 2026 open-facilities list: BSCC still lists Central Women’s Jail as record 3500, Type II.[1]

The inspection documents historical vacancy. The later list retains the facility record. Neither establishes current occupancy, permanent closure, or anyone’s present housing location. Do not assume a person has moved to any particular jail on the strength of these records.

Find the signer’s actual facility

  1. Use the Orange County Sheriff’s custody information; its system requires an account or sign-in.[5]
  2. Confirm the present facility directly. A shared complex address and the Sheriff’s combined Men’s/Women’s overview do not settle where someone is housed today.[2]
  3. Use the confirmed facility’s process. If staff confirms Central Women’s, ask whether the proposed visit can occur and obtain permission for signature documents before arranging travel. The combined visiting policy specifically requires visiting-staff permission for documents needing an inmate signature.[3]

Public visiting information is not permission for a notary to enter. This page is a custody-check resource, not confirmation that Women’s is accepting signing appointments.

Is Women’s the same as the Intake Release Center?

No. Central Women’s, Central Men’s and the Intake Release Center have separate state facility records.[1] Use the Central Jail Complex chooser if the only information you have is “the county jail in Santa Ana.” For another confirmed location, use the Orange County facility guide.

What to prepare while custody is being checked
