Check city custody before planning the trip
Buena Park Police describes its Type I jail as lodging adult men and women until release or arraignment.[6] Call Jail/Booking at 714-562-3939 to ask whether the signer is still there.[6][7] That custody model is not a promise about any one person’s release time.
If the person is no longer at the city jail, BPPD directs callers to check Orange County custody.[6] Obtain the receiving facility rather than assuming the signer has reached a particular county building. The public visitor rule matters to a signing
BPPD publishes daily public visiting from 9–10:45 a.m., a one-visitor-per-day rule and government-issued visitor identification requirements.[6] Its listed exceptions include bondsmen, attorneys, clergy and physicians—not notaries.[6]
Those are public visiting rules, not notary hours or an automatic right to use another professional’s exception. Before committing to a trip, ask:
- Which visitor category would apply to this notary signing, and would the daily visitor limit apply?
- Can the complete document and the notary’s journal enter, with enough time for the required notarial act?
- How can the signer’s identification be examined, and may any required witness attend?
- How will signed originals be returned if the signer is released or transferred?
Bring a complete document—not just a document name
